West Washington is proud to shine a Faculty Spotlight on Serra Snyder, one of our dedicated high school special education teachers.
What attracted her to West Washington:
Ms. Snyder was first drawn to West Washington because of the school’s supportive and welcoming community. After completing her student teaching here, she quickly realized that West Washington was where she truly belonged. That early experience helped shape her path and confirmed her passion for serving students in this community.
What is her role at West Washington:
It has not taken Ms. Snyder long to find her niche. As she describes, “I enjoy building relationships with students and helping them grow academically, socially, and personally. One of my favorite things about WW is the strong sense of community and the support staff members show one another.”
Why she works in Education:
Ms. Snyder's passion for teaching is built on relationships. As she explained, “I'm motivated by seeing students gain confidence and realize what they're capable of. I love being able to support students, advocate for them, and celebrate their progress, big and small.“
Outside of Teaching:
When she is not teaching, Ms. Snyder spends time with her two cats, Nesta and Mater, who keep her very busy. She also enjoys reading and has a goal of reading 50 books this year. Ms. Snyder likes attending concerts, going to the racetrack, and shopping in her free time.
Making an Impact:
In the short time Ms. Snyder has been at West Washington, she has already made a positive impact on those around her. Special education teacher Timothy Crane has seen this firsthand as he describes, "Serra leads with patience, compassion, and a steady belief in every student’s potential. No matter the challenge, she approaches each situation with calm determination and a genuine heart for kids."
West Washington is lucky to have Ms. Snyder in our Special Education Department. We look forward to the future impact she will make on our students and school.
