Heavy snow can’t stop the West Washington (WW) Boys Basketball team! In the last two weeks, they have competed against Medora, Mitchell, North Harrison, and Lanesville.

WW won against Medora 71-50, Mitchell 61-45, and Lanesville 62-50. They lost to North Harrison 55-39.

The team has been striving to find ways to win basketball games, WW head coach Ashton Minton said. “While not shooting the ball great, our guys have stuck together and keep finding new ways to win. We let one slip that we think we could have gotten, which is disappointing, but we can really learn from the loss. The loss to North Harrison exploited a few weaknesses that we can now work on in practice and watch on tape,” Minton said.

This team shines when they are on defense with multiple athletes who can guard the other team's best players. “We can throw two or three different looks at the same player, trying to keep him off balance. Offensively, we have a really close group that plays really well together. When we share the ball and attack the offensive glass, we are really fun to watch,” Minton said.

As the team enters the month of February, they are looking forward to improving their game in all areas. “With one month to go in the regular season, there is still lots of time to improve. We have to come in every day and work hard to improve on the mistakes we see from film. The biggest things we have to do are continue to take care of the basketball, rebound, and be physical,” Minton said.

Next up, the Senators will play Crawford County at home! J.V. will start at 6 p.m. At the game, our 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade boys basketball teams will be recognized.

After that, Borden and Christian Academy are on the schedule. “Borden and Christian Academy are both sectional opponents who we have to be ready for. Both teams are very dangerous and can get going offensively very quickly. They each have a few guys who can really score it. We have to play our style of basketball and dictate how the pace will go in both of those games. It will be a good few games to preview what a sectional game might look like in March,” Minton said.
