Right before Christmas, the West Washington (WW) Boys Basketball team won the annual Holiday Tournament. They defeated Salem 55-48 to secure the Championship.
WW has only won three Holiday Tourneys since 2000. The team won in 2006, 2019, and then in 2025.
On the first night of the tournament, WW played Borden and beat them 62-47. “Overall, our kids played really well both nights, ending with our goal, winning the championship. I thought Friday night we played our best basketball in the second half and really got what we wanted to get every possession, both defensively and offensively. Saturday night, we knew Salem was going to be ready to go at us again. I thought we continued our play from the second half of Borden and played our best basketball up until the last three minutes. It was a good test at the end to see how much our guys have matured over the season. We got over the adversity, and because we played so well all game long, we were able to come out with a championship,” head coach Ashton Minton said.
Over the holiday, the team took a small break over Christmas Eve and Christmas to rest and spend time with loved ones. The team resumed practice on the 26th to prepare for their next competition, the Cement Classic.
The Cement Classic takes place on Dec. 29th and 30th. Mitchell High School is hosting. WW will play their first game at 10 a.m. against Loogootee. Later that day, they will play against Rock Creek at 1:30 p.m.
The J.V. team will also play on Dec. 29th. Their first game will be at 11:45 a.m. versus Rock Creek. They will play again at 6:45 p.m. against Loogootee.
The game schedule for Dec. 30th will depend on tournament standing. The 5th-place game is at 3 p.m. The 3rd-place game is at 4:45 p.m. The final and Championship game will start at 6:30 p.m.
Come support the Senators as they fight to win the Cement Classic!
