Brian Wolfe is a dedicated educator at West Washington, where he serves as a teacher, the Business Professionals of America Sponsor, and the Head Golf Coach. Beyond the classroom and athletic field, Mr. Wolfe brings a wealth of experience from an extensive career in meteorology.
Early Interest in Meteorology:
Mr. Wolfe’s passion for weather began in his early childhood as he explained, “As far back as I could stand, I was always interested in what weather was occurring outside and I was always asking about ‘how?’ and ‘why?’ these phenomena were occurring. Then came a day in first grade, and I was in Mrs. Blackburn's class at Throop Elementary in Paoli, and we were held from dismissal and it was very dark outside at 3 p.m. The adults were panicked, and I remember asking my teacher, ‘What is happening outside?’ She told me that we were under a severe thunderstorm warning, and the very next day, I went to the school library and checked out every book about thunderstorms that I could find. My interest only continued to grow throughout my primary and secondary schooling, turning into my career now.”
Education in Meteorology:
Mr. Wolfe holds two degrees from Mississippi State University: a Bachelor of Science in Broadcast & Operational Meteorology and a Master of Science in Applied Meteorology with a minor in Remote Sensing & Geospatial Technologies. He is currently in the process of applying to Ph.D. programs, with the University of Edinburgh and the University of North Dakota among his top choices.
Background in Meteorology:
Mr. Wolfe has worked at the Indiana State Climate Office, co-authoring an international publication on thunderstorm climatology, and has been an on-air forecaster for WLFI TV-18 (a CBS affiliate in West Lafayette, IN). He has also interned with the Louisville National Weather Service Office as well as WRTV-6 with Kevin Gregory in Indianapolis. Mr. Wolfe has also been a CoCoRaHS (Community, Collaborative, Rain, Hail, and Snow) Network Coordinator and trainer across the state of Indiana.
Pursuing New Opportunities:
Mr. Wolfe is excited to share his newest opportunities in meteorology as he described, “I have recently launched my own private meteorology consulting firm, Wolfe Weather, that will specialize in Agriculture and Education products and forecasting before expanding into forensic and aviation weather avenues. In addition, I have launched several social media channels to share my weather forecasting with our local community to ensure safety during severe (and winter) weather events. Both ventures are in their infancy and will only continue to grow through time, including a website and smartphone application.”
