Congratulations to West Washington Senior Andrew Chastain on qualifying for the Regional Cross Country Meet this Saturday in Evansville!
Andrew earned his spot at Regionals after a strong performance in last week’s sectional meet, where he placed 44th with a time of 20:21.3. His effort marks a major milestone for Andrew and is a rare achievement for our cross country program.
Cross Country Coach Chad Johnson praised Andrew’s dedication and growth this season:
“Andrew has worked very hard over the summer and throughout the season, and it has shown in his performance. Making it out of Sectionals was his goal from the start. He has steadily improved his times through sprint and hill work, and that commitment has pushed the entire team to be better. I’m very proud of what he’s accomplished this year.”
Reflecting on his journey, Andrew shared:
“I’ve participated in cross country from 5th grade through 12th—except for my freshman year. Qualifying for Regionals means everything to me. It was the main goal I set at the beginning of the season. I’d like to give a shoutout to Mr. Tankersley, who first helped me find my love for the sport in 5th grade and coached me for two years. Another huge thank you goes to Coach Chad Johnson, who has supported and pushed me to be the best person and athlete I can be since 7th grade. I’m also extremely thankful for my teammates, who have cheered me on every race and been there with me every step of the way.”
The Regional Meet will take place Saturday, October 25th at Angel Mounds in Evansville. Good luck, Andrew — the entire West Washington community is proud of you!
