In their last regular season game at home, the West Washington (WW) football team beat county rival Salem. The final score was 21-14.

“The Salem win was a great team effort. We played physical football and found success in all three phases of the game. Our special teams did an outstanding job controlling field position and making game-changing plays in the return and kicking game. Defensively, we tackled well, won first and second downs, and kept them behind the chains. Offensively, we executed up front, protected the football, and created explosive plays that built momentum and helped us take control of the game,” WW head coach Jeremy Lowery said.

For offense, Gavin Hunt rushed 14 times for 79 yards and two touchdowns. Iziah Dennis added seven carries for 60 yards. Holden Russell had two catches for 52 yards and a touchdown reception. Colton Brown had six receptions for 36 yards, and Hayden Morrow had three catches for 34 yards.

For defense, Wyatt Wallace had 15 tackles with one tackle for loss. Jack Armstrong had 13 tackles with a tackle for loss. Hayden Morrow added 12 tackles. Charlie Armstrong had a fumble recovery, while Colton Brown added an interception.

Last Friday, the Senators also celebrated Senior Night! During Senior Night, the senior athletes of all Fall Sports were recognized. “Overall, we have a very young team, but our seniors have done an outstanding job providing leadership and setting the tone for our attitude and effort all season long. The improvement we’ve seen throughout the year is a direct reflection of their example and the standard they’ve established for this group,” Lowery said.

Senator fans came out to support their team in red, white, blue, and camo! The WW Spirit Club has done an excellent job organizing and supporting our student cheer block. “We had a great crowd last week, and that atmosphere made an impact on the outcome. It’s a long trip this week, but we really need our fans to make the trip and create that same energy on the road,” Lowery said.

In Sectional Round One, WW will face off against Knightstown. “Knightstown comes in at 5-4 on the season. Their quarterback, #2 Bryor Carmichael, has great arm talent and has put together an impressive year. Their running back, #32 Jameson Crawford, is explosive with excellent vision, and their top receiver, #16 Brody Williard, has been a consistent playmaker capable of changing the game at any moment. Defensively, we have to keep the ball in front of us and tackle well. Offensively, our success will come down to our willingness to block at every position and our ability to protect the football. On special teams, we need to win that phase by making a game-changing play and controlling field position,” Lowery said.

Make sure to come support WW as they travel to Knightstown on October 24th. Kickoff will be at 7:30 p.m.
