Staff Spotlight

West Washington Schools proudly celebrates Dr. Girgis, who has been named the District 12 Principal of the Year for her exceptional leadership, commitment to academic excellence, and dedication to our students and staff.

Well Deserved Recognition

West Washington Community School Superintendent Keith Nance shared his thoughts on this well-deserved recognition:

“Dr. Girgis has worked diligently to improve West Washington Jr./Sr. High School from her first day on the job. She has led change that has made a positive impact on academic performance and outcomes. Under Dr. Girgis’ leadership, West Washington has achieved one of our greatest academic accomplishments by becoming an endorsed Early College through the University of Indianapolis CELL program. During this time, West Washington has also strengthened our partnership with Ivy Tech, allowing us to offer students Indiana College Core credits. These accomplishments will have lasting impacts on our students, school, and community. She is very deserving of this honor.”

Dr. Girgis on Receiving the Award

“I am truly honored to receive this award, especially knowing the exceptional caliber of principals in District 12. Striving for excellence and leading by example has always been my guiding principle, so this recognition is deeply meaningful to me.”

Her Journey in Education

Dr. Girgis began her career in education teaching elementary school for 18 years before stepping into administration as an elementary principal in the North Lawrence Community School Corporation, where she served for five years. Later she worked with an educational consulting company to support underperforming schools across Indiana—an experience she describes as incredibly rewarding and formative. However, her passion for daily student interaction and long-term school leadership drew her back to public education.

“West Washington was my first interview, and after touring the campus and conducting research, I knew I had found a unique, excellence-driven school I couldn’t pass up.”

Since joining West Washington in 2020, Dr. Girgis has continued to grow as a leader, completing her Doctorate in Educational Leadership in 2023.

What Inspires Her

“While I can’t point to one particular individual as the sole influence on my professional growth, I find constant inspiration in the people around me—my children, my husband, my students, and the dedicated staff I have the privilege to lead.”

“I’ve always encouraged my children to dream big, and that belief is deeply embedded in my leadership philosophy. Watching them—and my students—set ambitious goals motivates me to strive for growth, both personally and professionally.”

Advice for Future Educators

“If you want to be a positive influence and a true change agent in this world, there is no better place to do that than in education. A single positive educator can change the entire trajectory of a student’s life.”

Congratulations, Dr. Girgis!

Your vision, leadership, and commitment have made a lasting impact on West Washington Schools, and we are proud to celebrate this incredible achievement with you!
