Senator Football

Ahead of week one of competition, the West Washington (WW) Senators scrimmaged North Harrison. “Overall, our team performed well in last week’s scrimmage. I thought our speed, physicality, and playmaking ability really stood out. At this point in the year, the focus is on building continuity and consistency, and those are areas where we need to keep improving,” WW head coach Jeremy Lowery said.

The high school football team prepares for each game similarly every week. “Mondays are a mix of fundamental work, opponent scouting, and correcting mistakes from the previous game. Tuesdays and Wednesdays are our heavy workload days, where we emphasize technique and scheme in all three phases—offense, defense, and special teams. Thursday is about pulling it all together, with extra time spent on special teams and situational football—two-minute offense/defense, red zone execution, goal-line scenarios, and more,” Lowery said.

On Thursdays after practice, the team comes together to share a meal. “We wrap up each week with team and individual awards from the previous game, followed by a team meal. Our parents’ club does an outstanding job providing that meal, which gives us extra time for camaraderie and to enjoy some great food together,” Lowery said.

The Senators will have their first game against Eastern on Friday. Eastern will host the Senators, and kickoff is set for 7 p.m. “As for Eastern, there are a lot of unknowns. With a new head coach and limited information on their roster or film, they’ve kept things pretty quiet. Our approach, however, is to focus on the SENATORS—how we prepare, how we work, and how we handle the things we can control,” Lowery said.
