Staff Spotlight

The opportunity to pursue a teaching career at West Washington is truly returning home for Landon Blevins. Landon is several months into his new role teaching 7th grade English at West Washington, but is very familiar with the school and the community. “Well, between graduating from here in 2019, to working here at the Afterschool Program, I knew that I would make my way back somehow. Other than those connections, I really was drawn to how small knitted the community here is. Familiarity is important to me, and I knew that is exactly what I would be getting here,” explained Mr. Blevins.

Mr. Blevins did not hesitate to give out praise when asked about how his first year is going. “I absolutely love the people here at school. I may be biased, but the English Department is one of the main reasons why I wanted to apply for this position. Each and every person in this group cares deeply for the students and had open arms when I arrived. I couldn't be luckier to work with some amazing people. Not only are the staff here top notch, but the facilities here on campus are as well. The school itself is impressive in the care of the building and the innovations of technology as well,” stated Mr. Blevins.

Mr. Blevins’ attraction to education is driven by his passion for learning. “What I love about education is that it allows me to continue to learn. We are always learning and education allows that space to be opened for everyone. That to me is so special,” said Mr. Blevins.

In addition to his passion for teaching, Mr. Blevins has a strong sense of family rooted right here in West Washington. “Both my parents have lived locally here their whole lives and my mom went to West Washington. My parents are famously known for their Homemade Ice Cream business, and yes, it is pretty delicious. My family is a huge reason why I wanted to become a teacher. I have amazing teachers in my family who really showed me the impact that they made, and I knew I wanted to make that impact myself,” mentioned Mr. Blevins.

When not at school, Mr. Blevins enjoys going to concerts, reading, and hanging out with his cousins. His favorite book right now is Scythe by Neal Shusterman. “I love to explore the world around us,” added Mr. Blevins.

Congratulations to Mr. Landon Blevins on his teaching opportunity and welcome back to Senator Nation!
