Program Spotlight

FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) has been around since 1954.  Their vision is to see the world impacted for Jesus Christ through the influence of athletes and coaches.

West Washington has recently started a FCA club, which is led by student-athletes and available for students in junior high and high school.   Assistant Basketball Coach, Greg Matthew, along with Girls Head Basketball Coach, Kristin Messmore, are leading the charge to get the FCA program at West Washington off the ground.  The first FCA meeting back in the fall showed great excitement and promise.  “Wow!  What a great response we had to FCA’s first club meeting!  Attendees included 33 high school and 47 junior high student-athletes.  FCA is about heart, integrity, attitude, and effort.  This is what makes a great team and great teammates,” explained Mr. Matthew.

FCA students at West Washington have been busy participating together in many fellowship activities and building excitement toward the program.  FCA members meet for Huddle on Wednesday mornings at 8:05 for short devotional and prayer.  The program has also given out some FCA gear and Bible's to help build support. Furthermore, FCA participated in a “Meet You at the Pole” event in which students gathered in front of the school for prayer time. A doughnut day held during the advisory period was popular among students thanks to a donation from Lisha Young.  FCA took part in a food drive for Senator Closet and plans to continue this support throughout the school year.

FCA is always looking for student-athletes to step forward, take ownership, and provide leadership to the program.  The following students volunteered this year to be FCA officers:

Eva O’Toole (Captain), Kenton Chase (Co-Captain), Jackson Wiseman (Chaplain), Abigail Young (Outreach), and Darcy Stout, (Outreach).

FCA is off to a great start at West Washington and our student-athletes are saying great things about the program:

\r\n

“FCA is a great organization and I'm so glad Coach Matthew started our huddle at West Washington! The short devotions and encouragements we share are motivating and set students' minds right to have good and purposeful days. FCA teaches leadership, dedication, faithfulness, and integrity!” - Eva O’toole

“I can do everything through him who gives me strength.” - Jackson Wiseman

\r\n

“Being involved in FCA gives me an opportunity to share my love for Christ with numerous of my friends and classmates and grow my relationship with God every time we come together.”                  - Kenton Chase

FCA values relationships that will demonstrate steadfast commitment to Jesus Christ and His Word through integrity, serving, teamwork and excellence.  If you have any questions about FCA or if you are interested in participating, please contact Mr. Greg Matthew or Mrs. Kristin Messmore.
