Invited to Perform at Carnegie Hall: West Washington choir students have been invited to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York City in March 2027. Students will work with approximately 100 other students from across the country under the direction of conductor Jennifer Sengin, accompanied by professional musicians. The performance will include several selections, including the world premiere of a composition by Connor Koppin.
“Only a few choirs get invitations each year to perform at the prestigious concert hall under such seasoned and renowned directors and musicians. It is most certainly a privilege earned only by hard work and dedication.” – Hannah Ledgerwood, West Washington Choir Teacher
A Growing Program with a Record of Success: Now in its fifth year, the West Washington Choir Program has grown from approximately 14 students to 24 students enrolled in choir, with another five students participating in a new afterschool program.
Mrs. Ledgerwood created the after-school choir to give students who could not fit choir into their academic schedules an opportunity to participate.
Throughout the year, students showcase their talents through two concerts and several additional performances. They also participate in Indiana State School Music Association (ISSMA) Solo & Ensemble competitions, where many WW students have received state-level gold ratings, gold ratings with distinction, and perfect scores.
For the past three years, students have participated in the All-Region Choir in Evansville. This year, they also attended the University of Evansville’s choir festival, learning from university choral professors and college choir students.
Dedication Beyond the Classroom: Many choir students balance music with athletics, drama club, academic clubs, and demanding school schedules. Their commitment reflects the hard work and dedication that have helped the program grow and earn this exciting opportunity.
Congratulations to Hannah Ledgerwood and the West Washington Choir Program! This invitation is a tremendous accomplishment for the students, the school, and the entire West Washington community. We look forward to watching these talented students take the stage in New York City in March 2027.
The choir has begun fundraising to help cover the costs of the Carnegie Hall trip. Please contact Hannah Ledgerwood for more details at ledgerwoodh@wwcs.k12.in.us
