On a tranquil autumn evening in Marengo this past Friday, the West Washington Senators took the field for their final conference match up against the Crawford Country Wolfpack and proceeded to control the contest start to finish, winning 54-0.
“We did what we were suppose to do,” said head coach Jeremy Lowery. “We were concerned about losing focus and attention to detail, and for the most part were able to overcome that.”
The Senators received the opening kickoff and needed just two plays before senior wide receiver Colten Brown would find the endzone from 15 yards out. After senior linebacker Tristan Brown broke up a pass to end the Crawford drive, the Senators would need just two more plays to notch their second touchdown on an 18 yard run by sophomore running back Nash Washburn.
The Senators would force and three and out, and junior defensive end Charlie Armstrong would block the ensuing punt to set the third Senator drive inside the 10 yard line. It would take one play for junior quarterback Jent Tankersley to find senior wide receiver Holden Russell for a touchdown.
The Wolfpack would drive the ball on their ensuing possession, before junior defensive tackle Isaac Worley would come up with a huge tackle for a loss on third and short, killing the drive. The Senators’ would then score on a 38-yard touchdown run by Washburn. Another forced punt on the ensuing possession, and the Tankersley to Russell connection would strike again from 5 yards out.
Worley would end the next Crawford drive with a tackle for loss on 2nd down, and pass breakup on 3rd down. Sophomore wide receiver Jaedin Warne would then find the endzone from 30 yards out, starting the running clock and taking the game to half.
The abbreviated second half would see sophomore quarterback Cam Poynter throw a 7 yard touchdown pass to senior wide receiver Nevin Marrs, followed by senior linebacker Wyatt Wallace forcing a fumble on the ensuing Crawford possession. The final score of the evening would come from freshman wide receiver Mark Robling from 16 yards out.
West Washington is back in action Friday night at Salem at 7 pm.
