Brynn Owens just finished her first semester at West Washington, and what a great addition she has proved to be for our junior high. In a short period of time, Mrs. Owens has made a positive contribution to our students and staff.
Background: Originally from Jeffersonville, Indiana, Mrs. Owens studied Neuroscience and Behavior at the University of Notre Dame. In May of 2024, she married her high school sweetheart, Logan Owens. He serves as the Assistant Manager at Wonder Valley Christian Camp, where they have served together for over four years.
Why West Washington? When asked what attracted her to WW, Mrs. Owens shared:
“My first interaction with West Washington was at a substitute training seminar where I was shown around the school and introduced to some of the administration and staff. I instantly saw the heart behind the school of educating students well and doing so professionally and compassionately and wanted to work here! The rest crazily fell into line as I was hired the next day for a 7th Grade Teaching position that I was not planning on! After serving faithfully at Wonder Valley for the past several years, I love this community and I am excited to continue to serve the youth in the Salem/Campbellsburg area.”
First Impressions: It has not taken long for Mrs. Owens to realize the strong culture that makes West Washington so special:
“Some of my first impressions have been the fun atmosphere that the kids bring and the teachers and administration work to support this camaraderie while still maintaining a safe and educational environment. The students have been engaged and parents have been so understanding during this transition.”
Passion for Teaching: Mrs. Owens’ love for teaching is watching her students grow academically and socially:
“I love most seeing students have an "Aha moment" where they finally understand a topic or they put the pieces together of a complex idea that we have been talking about. I also love the 5000 questions I get asked every day that help students to build a mental scaffolding to continue to expand their knowledge in math and college/careers. My background in Neuroscience helps me to understand that these students are learning how to learn. Their brains are developing at such an exponential rate that they are trying to put together not just the pieces in math but also how to live and interact with others. I am so glad that I get to teach students not just how to multiply and divide but also how to interact with adults and their peers respectfully and gracefully.”
Life Outside the Classroom: When Mrs. Owens is not teaching or working at Wonder Valley, she enjoys hiking, photography, reading, painting, and playing pickleball. She played softball all through school and was the President of the Club Team at Notre Dame for 3 years.
West Washington is grateful to have Mrs. Owens as part of our team. We look forward to the impact she will make in the classroom and beyond.
