WWSC Change in Delay Announcement-
After 2 hours of driving roads, the decision to delay has been reconsidered.
WWSC will be closed and will have virtual instruction Friday 2/19/21.
Too many roads south of Posey Chapel and around the 150 Corridor are still 2/3 or more covered and snow pack has become ice. Fog and temperature are not helping our cause.
WWSC Closure & Virtual Instruction Announcement-
http://bit.ly/37mb2Jh (Audio Announcement)
WWSC will be closed Thursday 2/18/21 and will have virtual instruction.
Students, you know the drill. Do your school work.
WWSC Closure Announcement-
WWSC will be closed Wednesday 2/17/21.
The WC Hwy Department and our WW Maintenance staff have done an outstanding job clearing most roads and our school property. However, with some areas in tree lined hills and valleys the roads are still slick. That coupled with extremely low temperatures we can't take even the slightest risk of a stalled or stuck bus or vehicle.
WWSC will NOT have a Virtual Day tomorrow. We still have one built in day on March 19th and we will use it to make up tomorrow's closure. Everyone could use the break from virtual instruction and those that need it can use it to get caught up on their work.
WWSC Announcement-
WWSC families, staff and students need to be prepared for the following scenarios for Wednesday 2/17/21:
Scenario #1:
2 hour delay- ALL students PreK-12 attend.
We have been out for 7 straight school days. Therefore, ALL students will attend. EVEN WITH IT BEING A WEDNESDAY, ALL STUDENTS WILL ATTEND.
Scenario #2:
Cancellation- Although many roads are in very good shape, some side roads are still in poor condition. The Hwy Dept has done an excellent job and the sun is helping tremendously. However, the roads still need to be evaluated this evening after the sun has gone down and potentially again in the morning.
If a definitive decision can be made tonight it will be communicated as soon as it is made.
*I know this can be frustrating for some needing childcare and trying to make arrangements in advance. We are trying to do our very best to be in school while balancing the safety of travel for staff and students. Road conditions can vary greatly from 6 PM one evening until 6 AM the next morning.
WWSC will make a decision about the status of school opening or being closed in the morning.
The linked document explains the process that WWSC Administration uses for making these decisions.

WWSC had a custodian test positive for Covid today. We were notified this evening.
Although contact tracing does NOT impact any teaching staff, support staff or office staff, it has impacted a handful of our custodial staff. With last week being Fall Break, we had limited staff in the building and no students.
We still have the ability to sanitize daily and nightly, but it is going to stretch our staff thin. I cannot express how thankful and proud I am of our custodial staff and the job they have done and will continue to do during these unprecedented times.
We will still open on a normal schedule tomorrow. This is a reminder that we MUST continue to follow precautions. Wearing face coverings and washing hands frequently is an ABSOLUTE necessity. Covid has NOT gone away and although we are all tired of it, we CANNOT let our guard down.
IF this affects any additional staff members, then we will evaluate and make adjustments as needed. Our custodial staff is ESSENTIAL to our Covid plan.
Please keep the health and safety of our school, staff and students in your prayers.
During Friday's home football game against Salem we will honor Coach Bowsman's decision to be an organ donor.
Representatives from the Indiana Donor Network will be present to promote organ donation. We ask those in attendance wear a little piece of green (color that represents organ donation), green bracelets will be handed out at the game by the Indiana Donor Network.
Coach Bowsman was a beloved figure in both of our communities. His commitment and leadership will never be forgotten. He will live on through the thousands of people that he impacted personally, his gift of organ donation and his story.
Tickets for the game will be handed to players on Monday and ticket vouchers will be available at Salem and West Washington on Tuesday. WWSC will still limit the number of tickets for the game and a voucher must be presented at the gate to pay for your admission. NO walk up tickets will be sold.

As we prepare for the beginning of school we need to make adjustments to transportation.
We recognize that the social distance on a school bus will be difficult to achieve. As a part of our reopening plan we are limiting the number of students allowed on a bus.
Students will be required to wear a mask on the bus. In addition, we are asking parents that are able to transport their children to and from school to do so.
If you are going to transport your child to school please call us at 812-755-4872 to let us know so we can plan our transportation accordingly.
We only need those that ARE going to transport their children to call.

Today in Governor’s Holcomb’s address we learned of the impending executive order to close schools through the remainder of the year.
I am sure that many of you are like me, devastated by the news that we will not return to school this school year. Although I understood this was a real possibility I was still harboring hope that we would be back together. That we would be celebrating milestones together, saying our goodbyes, hosting trophies and taking bows.
I am also sure that many of you are consoling some crushed kids. This has been a trying year, a difficult time for many of us in so many ways. We will get through this like we have our previous hardships, together.
This distancing makes it more difficult to lean on each other, but do not fall into the trap of isolation and despair. We have to be physically distant, but we do not have to be socially distant. Luckily, we live in a world where we can communicate in a variety of ways. Although, it is not the same as in person support and learning we do have the tools to do this.
If there is any comfort it is that we are in this together. I am upset as many of our dedicated educators are because we love this school, we believe that our work is critical for our children and our community and we love the people we work with.
Our commitment at WW to our kids and community have never been stronger.
Today is Census Day in America. Fill out your 2020 Census today if you have not already completed it.

WWSC will be CLOSED TO STUDENTS the week of 3/16-3/20.
Spring Break will be the week of 3/23-3/27.
A decision about future closures will be communicated immediately following the decision being made.
Information about remote learning will be shared on Monday morning. Students can check their Google Classrooms for updates, assignments and activities.
Anyone requesting alternate/non-digital assignments can contact the school office that your child attends. Elementary 812-755-4934. Jr/Sr High School 812-755-4996.
WWSC will provide food service to those that call and request it. We are not sure exactly what this will look like yet. You may call the Superintendent's Office on Monday to be added on a list. More details will follow about food service. Superintendent's Office 812-755-4872.
*There was NO communication or guidance from the federal, state or local levels to cancel school. No information from the Governor's memo or CDC had changed since 3/12/20. The leadership team and school board made the decision after collecting all relevant data and waiting for the officials that are charged with public health and safety to make a determination. That determination never came. Therefore, we made a decision to err on the side of caution.
WWSC board and leadership will meet again following the press conference scheduled for 3 PM by the President and follow up releases by the state. This is a fluid situation and no decision is set in stone.

During the 13 week program they learned various survival skills, completed various physical fitness testing as well as taking written test. They even had a weekend long encampment where they completed various “military like” skills.
Both of the Ferguson children received special awards and recognition. Isaac received the "IF Award", for continued persistence throughout the program.

All 3 plan to continue as Privates in the Young Marine Program. They can complete tasks to move up in rank.

Attention Seniors-
Herff Jones will be at school to meet with seniors on Nov. 1st. They will hand out order forms and information about graduation announcements, caps/gowns, etc. They will return on Nov. 12th to collect orders.
WW will be practicing a variety of safety drills today, including the response to an intruder. It is unfortunate that this is something we must do, but it is an absolute necessity that we are prepared.
We always begin with an assembly to discuss the seriousness of these drills. Then have individual teachers discuss with their classrooms and answer questions. After the scenario drills we debrief with the students and the safety team spends the next few days evaluating our response.
Please take the time to discuss these drills with your children. Our goal is to be prepared without traumatizing our children. Our school is a safe place and we want it to remain that way.

Rain will continue through Friday morning and areas will begin to flood or have standing water. Our bus drivers know how to bypass these areas and navigate their routes.
Students, parents and staff driving our roads need to use caution. Do NOT rush, allow plenty of time and do NOT drive through standing water. If you are running late, contact school. It is more important to arrive safe than on time.
